MIMEISA Asset Management has obtained B Corp Certification. This is an important milestone that confirms our commitment to the highest standards of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical governance. This certification places MIMEISA among a select group of companies that prioritize positive impact on society and the environment.
The value of B Corp in the real estate sector
Achieving B Corp status holds exceptional significance in the real estate sector—an industry with some of the highest rates of carbon emissions and resource consumption. Traditionally, real estate has been associated with considerable environmental impact, from intensive energy and water use to waste generation and land use.
In this context, B Corp Certification affirms MIMEISA’s commitment to implementing sustainable and responsible practices across all areas of activity. It reflects not only a drive to generate positive impact but also a willingness to lead change within the sector. The certification ensures compliance with strict requirements for transparency, accountability, and social and environmental performance, enabling decision-making that supports long-term value for all stakeholders: employees, clients, suppliers, communities, and the environment.
The path to B Corp certification
Since its founding, MIMEISA has embraced a business model that places sustainability at the core of its operations. Our purpose is clear: to transform and manage real estate assets in a way that creates spaces that promote the well-being of their occupants. Over the past year, MIMEISA has undertaken a series of actions that reinforce its B Corp commitment:
- Carbon footprint reduction: We have implemented a carbon accounting and reduction program that covers scopes 1, 2, and 3. Over the past year, we achieved a significant reduction in emissions thanks to the installation of solar panels, green energy contracts, and energy consumption optimization in common areas and offices.
- Water efficiency and waste management: We installed water-saving systems, including flow reducers in taps and showers, and introduced efficient waste management with category-based recycling at each asset. MIMEISA also promotes waste reduction through tenant and user awareness campaigns, fostering a culture of sustainability.
- Asset certifications: To enhance both the sustainability and value of its properties, MIMEISA has obtained LEED and BREEAM certifications for several flagship buildings, such as Serrano 16 in Madrid and General Zabala 19, which feature energy-efficient systems and access to renewable energy. Additionally, the Diagonal Beethoven offices in Barcelona are the first building in the city to receive SmartScore Gold certification, standing out as a model of technology and sustainability.
- Health and well-being: MIMEISA has invested in creating spaces that promote physical and mental well-being, including bicycle facilities, showers, yoga areas, and communal zones that encourage social interaction and physical activity. These initiatives align with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and aim to improve quality of life for building users.
- Sustainable mobility initiatives: To reduce transport-related emissions, MIMEISA promotes public transport and active mobility through employee incentives and user facilities, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable urban environment.
Looking ahead: MIMEISA future goals
MIMEISA is firmly committed to achieving carbon neutrality and actively works to reduce CO₂ emissions across its assets. To that end, a comprehensive action plan has been implemented, with short-term goals for 2027 including:
- 100% renewable energy: Our goal is for all energy used across MIMEISA’s assets to come from renewable sources.
- 20% emissions reduction: MIMEISA aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 20% through improved energy efficiency and the implementation of renewable energy technologies.
- 80% portfolio certification: We aim for 80% of our assets to be certified under leading environmental standards such as LEED and BREEAM.
- Increased social impact: By 2025, MIMEISA will allocate 15% of its investment funds to projects that promote well-being and inclusion within local communities—an initiative aligned with B Corp principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A commitment to the future
Achieving B Corp Certification marks a key milestone in MIMEISA’s journey toward sustainability and social responsibility. Yet this is only one step in a long-term commitment. In the words of MIMEISA’s CEO, Miguel Casas: “Sustainability is the best way to preserve the value of our assets and respond to the social demand for a greener, more responsible future.” With this vision, MIMEISA plans to continue expanding its sustainable practices and fostering collaboration with partners and institutions that share its values.
In a world increasingly aware of environmental and social challenges, MIMEISA is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of people and their surroundings. B Corp Certification not only validates this effort—it inspires MIMEISA to keep innovating in the creation of spaces that truly make a difference.
