Diagonal Beethoven building achieves international LEED Platinum certification

The Diagonal Beethoven office building in Barcelona has obtained the international LEED Platinum certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) following the completion of its renovation works. Located on Avinguda Diagonal, one of the city’s main business hubs, the building becomes a sustainability benchmark by receiving the highest distinction for its design, energy use, and environmental performance.

In this way, Diagonal Beethoven is consolidated as a key attraction for national and international companies looking to establish themselves in Barcelona. Currently, the offices are home to firms from diverse sectors including technology, real estate, legal, finance, and fintech.

The building spans over 8,400 m², distributed across ten floors, a ground level, and underground parking. Sustainable materials with Environmental Product Declarations and low emissions were selected for the renovation, while green areas were maximized—integrating a landscaped zone of over 160 m² along with a 50 m² urban garden.

LEED certification offers global recognition for green, efficient, and healthy buildings. To achieve certification, projects are scored across multiple criteria such as air emissions, energy efficiency, recycling, mobility, sustainable materials, and health and wellbeing. Certification levels range as follows: Certified (40–49 points), Silver (50–59), Gold (60–79), and Platinum (+80 points).

A new environmental benchmark in Barcelona

One of the most prominent features of the renovation is its energy efficiency: Diagonal Beethoven achieves a 20% energy saving compared to a standard reference building and supplies 100% green energy to its common areas. Sustainable mobility also plays a key role, with installations for zero-emission vehicles, reserved spots for carpooling, and spaces equipped with electric vehicle charging points.

User wellbeing is a central pillar of the new design. Diagonal Beethoven has also earned the WELL pre-certification from the International WELL Building Institute, focused exclusively on health and user comfort. The building offers natural light to 85% of its interior, supplies filtered outdoor air, implements cutting-edge technology for remote work, and includes common spaces like open-air terraces and multipurpose areas to promote exercise and healthy habits.

Thus, Diagonal Beethoven takes sustainability to the next level. If you want to learn more about what this building has to offer, visit the website at diagonalbeethoven.com.
